Major

Tree canopy

Environmental Studies is the examination of the social, economic and regulatory contexts that surround the management and monitoring of environmental and ecosystem health.

This major incorporates the study of both social and bio-physical phenomena within their regulatory and policy frameworks, and is therefore inherently multi-disciplinary.

The Environmental Studies major will provide you with an understanding of the governance framework in which your professional career in the environment sector will operate, including the fundamental aspects of sustainability, environmental assessment, law, ethics, development, energy use, economics and politics.

Consequently, the `ENVI' units of study in this major are complementary to studies in the physical and natural science disciplines as well as the social disciplines.

Graduate opportunities

Graduating with an Environmental Studies major will provide you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in government funded organisations, in local government, or in the multitude of private environmental consultancies seeking graduates with science-based skills and specialist knowledge in environmental issues.
