How to apply as an international student

Steps to apply for undergraduate or postgraduate coursework as an international student.

Before you apply

1. Find your course and check entry requirements

Use the course search to find what you’d like to study. Read each tab of your course page to learn more about the subjects and entry requirements for your course.

2. Consider preparation programs

If you’re applying as an undergraduate student and you haven’t completed a recognised qualification, check preparation programs for extra study that you can complete to gain entry into your course.

These programs are delivered by Taylors College, which provides pathway programs to the University.

3. Prepare your documents

You’ll need to include official documents with your application, such as academic certificates and transcripts, proof of English language proficiency and proof of identity (such as your passport).

Other supporting documents may be required depending on your background, for example a change of name certificate or curriculum vitae.

Some programs may also require additional documents such as a supplementary form, personal statement or portfolio.

If your school issues electronic certification for academic transcripts, you need to submit a secure digital document from the school. They may also use an approved digital platform, such as My eQuals, MyCreds, Parchment and National Student Clearinghouse.

If you're applying from China, check if you need your academic documents verified by China’s .

If you have documents in languages other than English, you need to have them translated by a government-accredited translator such as NAATI, or your school’s registrar or equivalent department.

4. Check key dates

Submit your application before the University deadline and note the start dates for each semester.

5. Consider scholarships and other financial support

If you’re eligible for scholarships, submit your application by the deadline. You may be automatically considered for some scholarships when you apply at the University. For others, you may need to submit a separate application.

6. Check study or work credit

If you've completed any related study or work experience, check if you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for your degree, which includes international articulation pathways for international students. This means you won’t have to repeat similar units, could graduate sooner, and pay less.

7. Submit application

For overseas qualifications

Apply directly to the University from your course page or via an authorised agent. Note that you’ll need to pay the application processing fee.

For a recognised Australian qualification (undergraduates only)

If you’re currently studying for either an Australian Year 12 qualification or an IB diploma in Australia, apply through the , which processes applications on behalf of universities in New South Wales.

Check your course for guidance.

After you apply

8. Accept your offer

When the outcome of your application is available, you’ll receive an email from the University or UAC, depending on where you applied.

If successful, you get either an unconditional or conditional offer. If you receive a conditional offer, you’ll need to fulfil further requirements to proceed.

You need to accept your offer by the deadline and pay your first semester fees to enrol. After payment, you’ll receive an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) for your student visa application.

9. Arrange overseas student health cover (OSHC)

A valid Australian student visa requires health insurance coverage. You can either have the University arrange this on your behalf by paying upfront when you accept your offer, or apply for it yourself with preferred or approved providers.

10. Apply for a student visa

After paying your fees and arranging your OSHC, apply for a student visa.
